It's that time of the year again when we get bombarded with Oscar fever as everyone pitches in and lines up with their favourite. The fascinating thing about working in this industry is that one person's Oscar winner will be another's big time loser. Very few cinema goers are literate in all the latest screenwriting jargon, they just know a good story when they experience one, besides it is all a matter of personal opinion and taste. But one thing I can guarantee all the nominated films will have in common is a strong, believable, character at the heart of each one. People we will want to go on a journey with, people we start to care about after seeing them on screen for just ten minutes, people, even though we know that they are not 'real' that can make us feel! This is the golden ticket that will lead you to the golden statue. All great stories have great characters at their heart, so when you are developing your characters ask yourself; Is my protagonist great enough?
Good luck and happy writing
